The leader of Bad Brains almost singlehandedly turned punk into hardcore. H.R. did so with love in his heart, plus a degree of hopefulness neverbeforefound within the oft gloomy confines of punk. But his journey has been riddled with unprecedented volatility, including violence, addiction, and bouts with a debilitating mental illness. It's difficult to fathom how he even survived it.
